Great Lakes Blues hockey splits

MARQUETTE - The Great Lakes Blues 2001 hockey team finished 2-2 on the weekend at the Belle Tire End of School Classic in Detroit.

The Blues are a AAA hockey team made up of players from the U.P. and Northern Wisconsin. Four current players are from Marquette, including Thomas Dunleavy, Sean O'Conner, Kobie Guidebeck and Tyler Bergwall.

The Blues lost their first and second games of the tourney, 4-1 to the Ann Arbor Wolves and 3-2 to Allen Park. Bergwall started both games in net and O'Conner added an assist in Game 2.

The Blues defeated host Belle in Game 3, 12-0, behind a goal and an assist each from Marquette's Dunleavy and Guidebeck. Bergwall earned a shutout in the win.

Game 4 saw more of the same with the Blues handing Belle Tire an 11-1 loss in the third-place game. O'Conner had two goals and an assist, while Dunleavy added a goal and two assists. Guidebeck also scored in the win. Bergwall earned the win in net.
