ISHPEMING - Catcher Josie Caya made three outs at the plate and had a hit to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning as her U.P. Fabricating team defeated Chapper's Pub, 12-9, May 23 in a Class C game of the Iron Range Women's Softball League.
The winners scored nine runs in the seventh to clinch the win despite a double by Chapper's Megan Menard.
In other C games, Connie Schultz went 5 for 5 and Amy Bazzinette 3 for 5 to lead Eastwood past Country Lanes, 10-5. Country's Emily Rushford was cited for her pitching.
Heather Moore earned plaudits for great defense in a 7-5 win posted by Rookies 1 over Negaunee Eagles.
Danielle VanBeckum had five RBIs and Lauren Marshall four to lead Jean Kay's past Martin Sports Apparel, 16-10. The winners' Zarah Moeggenberg had three hits, while Martin's Annie LeSage was 3 for 3 with a homer, Rachel Nicholas 2 for 4 with a homer and Mindy Harrington 3 for 4 with three runs scored.
And the Wooden Nickel dropped Palomaki Family Chiropractic, 11-1, as Kelly Baskey homered and knocked in two runs for the winners. Palomaki's Jen Quayle was 2 for 3 with a home run.
In Class A, Elyssa Hallum went 5 for 5 with a home run to lead PC Medic past Crossfit 906, 16-11. Teammate Terri Todd added a homer for the winners, while Crossfit's Traci Sundberg was 4 for 4, Shannon O'Donnell 3 for 4, and Ashley Martin and Liz VanBuren both homered.
Beth Williams was 5 for 6 with a homer as Teepee Bar outscored Paradise Bar, 30-18. Teepee's Penny Soucey went 5 for 5, Jen Laurila 4 for 4 and Michelle McCann 3 for 4.
Paradise's Sara Martin homered in a 3-for-4 night, while Heather Nelson was 3 for 3 and Rachel Hytinen 3 for 4 with a triple.
Dindy Cousineau and Rhonda Williams each went 5 for 6, Cousineau including a triple in her output, to lead Buck's Party Store to the biggest offensive explosion of the week in a 39-5 win over Hickey's. Deanna Makela and Nichi Sundberg each went 2 for 3, Sundberg homering, for Hickey's.
Congress took care of Rookies Too/Quality Car Care, 20-3 as Amy Steele was 4 for 4 and Abbie Salisbury 4 for 5. Erin LaValley sparked Rookies, going 2 for 2.
Amber Emanuelson wsa 3 for 3 with two triples as Jasper Ridge Brewery 1 zipped past Cliffs Natural Resources, 16-6. Teammate Toni Enrietti was 3 for 4 with two doubles and a triple, while Cliffs' Kaylin Marshall, Ashley Pietro and Cassy Sandberg all went 2 for 3.
Paige Yoho went 4 for 4 with a double to lead Iracore past Jubilee Foods, 12-8. Amy Schultz was 3 for 4 for the winners, as was Christina Rader for Jubilee while including a double in her hits.
In Class B, Gabby Croley cracked a homer in extra innings as her Jack's Teepee club held off VFW, 7-6.
Home runs also helped Tino's 2 get by Pasquali's, 26-9, as Taryn Moyle hit two roundtrippers and Rachel Argall and Shannon Terres had one each. Teammate Jeanne Argall tripled.
Nicole Chapman was 6 for 6 in Signs Unlimited's 31-2 thumping of Willey's Tire Shop. Teammate Emily Garceau earned the pitching win, while Willey's Penny Kipling and Ashley Delisle both scored.
Sister's had doubles on the mind in a 17-7 win over U.P. Rehab Services. Getting two-base hits for the winners were Jaylyn Martin, who also homered, Linda Manninen, Sandie Whitford and Jesse Rosten. U.P. Rehab's Annette Gleason went 3 for 5 and also doubled.
Jessica Stailey went 4 for 4 to lead U.P. Off Road & Performance to a 23-22 nailbiter over Company B Graphics. Shana Calguri was 3 for 4 for Company B.
Mel Bess and Jenn Pikka each went 4 for 4 to help Dave's Collision get past Jasper Ridge Brewery 2, 16-13. Homering were Bess and teammate Jaime Roose, who was 3 for 4. Tera Bell and Liz Valela both went 3 for 3 for Jasper Ridge while Jamie Pennel homered.
