MARQUETTE - A Marquette Senior High School proposed kitchen serving area update will be discussed during tonight's Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education meeting.

The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. inside room 210 of the Graveraet School.

Peggy Mullen, MAPS food service director, said the proposal calls for roughly $45,000 in updates to equipment, some of which she estimates has been in use since the building first opened.

Mullen said some of the updated equipment would include new cafeteria steam tables to hold hot food and adding a refrigerated unit to store cold food.

The board will also look at moving the junior varsity dance team to a club sport, pushing the cost of the team from the district to the students involved with the team.

A special reception honoring this year's teacher of the year will also take place tonight.

Cindy DePetro, an English teacher at Marquette Alternative High School is MAPS 2012 winner.

Along with the title, she will receive $1,000 to be used for professional development or for anything classroom related.

Jackie Stark can be reached at 906-228-2500, ext. 242.
