MARQUETTE- Posting two ties and a win, the FC Marquette Red Bulls 00 U-12 squad placed third in the Cherry Capital Cup Soccer Tournament in Traverse City May 19-20.
In their first game, the Red Bulls played the T-Bays Canada team to a 1-1 deadlock. Ethan Martysz scored an unassisted goal in the second half for Marquette.
Goalkeepers Ben Noble made one save in the first half and Riley Lindberg five in the second for the Red Bulls.
Caleb Byma (offense), Lindberg (defense) and Martysz (outstanding player) earned special awards.
Also on May 19, the Red Bulls tied the Leeland M22's, 1-1. Again, Martysz notched an unassisted marker for Marquette, that coming in the first half.
Noble (three) and Martysz (five) combined for eight saves in net.
Thayer Yates (offense), Erik Salminen (defense) and Brenden Lindgren (outstanding player) received special recognition.
In game 3 on May 20, the Red Bulls defeated the T-Bays USA team, 2-0, with Martysz scoring one goal in the first half and one in the second, both unassisted.
Martysz (offense), Kahleb Federau (defense) and Noble (outstanding player) gained special nods.
Martysz was named the most valuable player of the tournament for the Red Bulls.
The Marquette squad is coached by Ricky Graves, with help from Kevin Liberty, Vince Jeevar and Bob Holm.
