ISHPEMING - The NICE Community Schools Board of Education is expected to hear and act on recommendations from its finance committee regarding the 2012-2013 budget.
The board meets at 6:30 p.m. today at the Westwood High School media center.
After a difficult budget process for the 2011-2012 school year in which the district had to eliminate more than $1 million from its budget, the board this year is facing a projected deficit of $200,000. The district's general fund balance sits at $171,000.
School officials have stated any cuts made this year will be made with the goal of not affecting the classroom experience of the district's students.
The board is also expected to act on several personnel items, approve graduation candidates for both NICE and the community schools adult education and consider approval of several sinking fund projects.
