APPLETON, Wis. - The FC Marquette Red Bulls finished as runners-up in the Under-14 division of the Fox Cities Classic soccer tournament in Appleton, Wis., after bad weather forced cancellation of part of the final day of the two-day event.
The Red Bulls were ahead 1-0 on a goal by Lehomn Pickard 27 minutes into their third game against the Appleton Terminators when the skies opened and flooded fields on Sunday, forcing organizers to award places based on games played to that point.
Earlier, the Red Bulls of head coach Ricky Graves and assistant Garrett Marchant beat Hovsa, Wis., Blue Thunder, 7-0. Pickard and Peter Amundsen each scored twice and teamamtes Nathan King, Eli PIckard and Preston Marchant had one goal apiece, all coming in the first half. Sydney Higgins and Eli Pickard had two assists each and Travis Lindberg was among those with one.
Alex Wyble was in goal and stopped three shots.
Marquette's other completed game was a 4-2 loss to the River Falls, Wis., Wildcats/Sanchez. Lehomn Pickard had two second-half goals to tie the game 2-2 before the Wisconsin teams clinched the victory. Kees Gray was among those with an assist as Wyble and Amundsen split duties in net. Six saves were made by Wyble had one by Amundsen, who also had stopped all four shots he saw in the suspended game.
Next up for the Red Bulls is the Cherry Capital Cup in Traverse City Saturday.
