GREEN BAY - A 1-0 loss to Kaukauna (Wis.) in the championship game left the Marquette Senior High School girls soccer team with a runner-up finish in the Green Bay East Red Devil Tournament on Saturday.

The Redettes put 17 shots on the Kaukauna net, but couldn't score.

Maddie Pederson made three saves in goal for MSHS, allowing a marker midway through the second half.

"The team played great," MSHS assistant coach Matt Tebo said. "We worked hard. It's just unfortunate we didn't win the finale.

"We were peppering Kaukauna, but just couldn't find the back of the net."

The Redettes opened tourney play with a 3-0 win over Manitowoc (Wis.) Roncalli.

Casey Durand, Mellie Tuma and Sheila Flood scored for Marquette, with Flood, Shelby Ross and Carleigh Hillier posting assists.

Pederson was forced to make just one first-half save, while MSHS was putting 23 shots on the Roncalli net.

In their second game of the day, the Redettes edged host Green Bay East, 1-0, behind a first half marker by Alex Gencheff. Flood assisted on the play.

Pederson made one second-half save. MSHS put 18 shots on the GB East goal.
