POSEN - An 8-5 win over Onaway enabled the Superior Central baseball team to gain a split in the Posen Tournament on Saturday. Coach Bill Maki's Cougars lost to Posen in the first game, 6-0.
Ryan Barr led SC (2-14) against Onaway with three hits, including a two-run homer. Cody Maki added two hits (double) and Dan Steward came up with two doubles and an RBI.
"That was a big homer for Barr," Bill Maki said. "He's a senior and it was his first home run in high school.
"The kids feel good about the win. We hit the ball and our fielding was pretty clean."
Cody Maki allowed five runs, nine hits and one walk over six innings on the mound for SC. He fanned eight.
Against Posen, the Cougars managed but two hits off Nate Lenard, who hit a two-run homer in the game. Bill Torongo absorbed the mound loss.
