ALLENDALE - Junior Mallory Cellaya of the Northern Michigan University outdoor track and field team set a school record Friday at the Second to Last Chance Meet from the campus of Grand Valley State University in downstate Allendale.
Cellaya finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:49.92, breaking her own mark in the event and improving her provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Championship by 10 seconds.
"Mallory ran very well ... moving into the top 18 in the country," NMU assistant coach Jenny Ryan said. "She'll get another chance at it (today)."
Kathryn Hague (open, 10:34.24), Karie McDonald (GVSU, 10:42.10) and Shelbi Burnett (Butler, 10:49.79) finished ahead of Cellaya.
