Marie Ann Swenor

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Marie Ann Swenor, age 96, formerly of 231 Jackson St., Marquette, entered eternal life May 5, 2012, at Norlite Nursing Center in the loving care of her family.

Marie was born May 29, 1915, in Marquette to Arthur and Katherine (Holland) Hebert . She was raised in Marquette and was a graduate of Bishop Baraga High School. Following graduation from high school she worked in Trout Creek as a secretary for the sawmill and later as a secretary for Lake Shore Inc. Marie married Thomas Swenor in 1936 and together the couple established a home and raised three daughters. Over the years Marie and her husband owned and operated Swenor's Confectionary, Tom's Bar and the Central Bar. She was an active member of St. Peter Cathedral and the Ladies Trainmen. Marie's family was everything to her and she spent many days following her grandchildren's athletic achievements.

Survivors include her three daughters, Judith (Dan) Miller, Joan (Dan) Hillier and Patti (John) Dale all of Marquette; nine grandchildren, Susan (John) Manion, Kathy Jo Daley, Mark (Chris) Miller, David (Suzanne) Miller, Kellie (Charles) Genschaw, Kristie (David) Johnson, Kurt (Shelby) Hillier, Matt (Crystal) Dale and Tomi (Kelly) Starkey; fifteen great-grandchildren, Kevin Manion, Victor Daley, Kelsey, Taylor, Alexis, Jacob and Rachel Miller, Chase and Cole Genschaw, Daren and Carleigh Hillier, Brooke and Allie Johnson and Gracie and Rani Dale; two sisters-in-law, Aurelia Hooper and Grace Jones and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Tom in 1985; her infant daughter; four sisters, Margaret, Mary, Katherine and Ann and her brother, Dan.

You may call at the Bishop's Room located at St. Peter Cathedral on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the cathedral with Msgr. Michael Steber as celebrant. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Marie's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Norlite Nursing Center Activity Fund, 701 Homestead Ave., Marquette, MI 49855.
