Taggart, Seibert named MSHS Kiwanis athletes of the month

MARQUETTE - Zach Taggart and Morgan Seibert have been named the Marquette Senior High School March Male and Female athletes of the month, respectfully.

The two were honored at a breakfast meeting of the Superiorland Kiwanis Club

A junior, Seibert has played for the MSHS softball team for two seasons, helping the Redettes claim a district title last year.

At the recent Spring Swing Dome Tournament in Marquette, she struck out 32 batters in 17 innings on the mound. Seibert also hit three doubles, scored three times and knocked in three runs.

She has been a member of the MSHS freshman, junior varsity and varsity basketball teams the last three seasons and has made the school's honor roll academically all two-plus years at MSHS.

Seibert volunteers at youth basketball and softball camps.

Her parents are Paul and Sandy Seibert. Paul is the MSHS softball head coach. After graduation, Morgan plans to pursue dentistry.

Taggart is a senior and is now in his fourth year with the MSHS track/field team. At Marquette's first meet of the season, he placed first in the 55-meter hurdles at Lake Superior State. He also ran a leg of the winning 400 relay unit.

Taggart has also been a member of the MSHS freshman, JV and varsity football teams while also participating in intramural basketball.

He enjoys rock climbing and mountain biking in his spare time. His volunteer activities include helping clean up after Rotary Club activities.

Coached by Kyle Detmers, Taggart's parents are Robert and Marcia Taggart.

Upon graduation from MSHS, Zach plans to study Criminal Justice in college.
