ALLENDALE - Northern Michigan University won three events at the Al Owens Classic outdoor track and field meet held at Grand Valley State University on Friday and Saturday.
Two of the winning scores were also provisional qualifiers for the NCAA national meet.
Junior Mallory Celaya won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a provisional qualifying time of 10:59.14, while redshirt freshman Sherice Hewett had a provisional qualifying and meet winning triple jump of 39 feet, 8 inches.
The other Wildcat win was turned in by senior Melissa Christensen in the heptathlon with 2,709 points. Christensen was also second in the long jump with a leap of 18-5.3, while teammate Jamie Roberts was second in the pole vault with 12-5.6. The 400 relay team of Hewett, freshman Olivia Howard, senior Catherine Angeli and sophomore Samara White came in fifth.Other top-10 finishes were turned in by Brooke Granquist, fifth in the triple jump; junior Mariah Beaman, sixth in the javelin; Angeli, seventh in the 100 and ninth in the 200; Olivia Howard, seventh in the 5,000; Hewett, eighth in the 100 hurdles; White, ninth in the long jump; and freshman Angelina Howard, 10th in the 100.
Northern travels Thursday to the three-day Penn Relays in Philadelphia, the nation's largest outdoor track and field meet.
