ASHLAND, Ohio - The Northern Michigan University golf team finished 11th at the Ashland Invitational at the Country Club of Ashland over the weekend. The Wildcats shot a team score of 650.
Sophomore Mike Murphy led the Wildcats with a 10-over-par 154, good for a tie for 17th place. He opened with 83 on Saturday and bounced back with a one-under 71 on Sunday. Murphy led all golfers at the meet with eight birdies.
Sophomore Jared Reid (85-78) and freshman Ayrton Mantha (86-77) tied for 55th at 163. Reid had six birdies.
Freshman Colten Thewis (83-87) was seven shots back in 74th, while junior Adam Huss (180) was 82nd.
Findlay won the tournament with a 598 and the Oilers' Michael Schmitmeyer was the medalist with 144.
The Wildcats travel south again to Elyria, Ohio, this weekend to wrap up the season at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Preview tournament.
