MARQUETTE - The Northern Michigan University's men's basketball program received a National Letter of Intent from Milwaukee Northwest High School guard Shyheim McClelland, head coach Doug Lewis announced Monday.

McClelland, at 5-foot-11, was a first-team All-Milwaukee City Conference selection and an all-area honorable mention while playing under coach Carlos Hubbard. He was a second team all-conference selection after his junior year.

"Shyheim can score and create for his teammates," Lewis said. "His quickness and strength allows him to break down defenders off the dribble. More important, he's a good student who has a 3.2 grade point average."

McClelland averaged 15.2 points and eight assists per game for the Eagles, during his senior season.

"Shyheim is mentally and physically ready to play in the GLIAC as a true freshmen," added Lewis. "He's a leader and has the ability to run a team."
