MARQUETTE - The Marquette Casa Calabria mite hockey team played in its first full-ice tournament of the season at the St. Ignace Bridge Brawl.
After winning its first three games and securing a spot in the semifinals, Marquette went fell 5-2 to the Romes Ice Dogs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Marquette defeated Escanaba Monster Energy on Friday in an 8-5 victory. Marquette also beat the Flint Icelanders, 11-1, and the Sault Sharks, 5-3.
Jack Sides led the team in scoring over the weekend with five goals and three assists. Jack Burzynski notched four goals and four assists. Tommy Blemberg scored four goals and three assists while Matt Anderson collected two goals and four assists. Brayden Grange, Ansel Frost, Austin Ridl and Luke Janofski all came up with two goals and one assist a piece while Chase Seger notched two assists. On defense, Skyler Deshone netted one goal and two assists, Ray Modell found the back of the net for one and Ben Gostomski came up with two assists.
Goaltender, Carsen Hayes played three games in net and was chosen as MVP from the Marquette team in the semifinal game. Frost also played one game between the pipes in which Hayes scored one goal.
The tournament skills competition also provided an opportunity for Marquette players to show their stuff. Blemberg took home first in the shootout competition, while Hayes also scored big, taking home third place trophies for both the goalie competition and the fastest skater.
