NMU opens golf season

GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Northern Michigan University golf team opened its spring season at The Jewel, a two-day tournament at the Cherry Blossom Golf Club in Georgetown, Ky. The Wildcats finished 22nd with 618.

Mike Murphy tied for 18th overall with a three-over-par total of 147. He shot 75 on Friday and bounced back with an even-par 72 on Saturday. Jared Reid tied for 75th, shooting 155. He scored 74 on Friday and 81 on Saturday.

Ayrton Mantha was one shot back with 156, tying him for 80th. He shot 80 and 76, while Colten Thewis shot a 160 (78-82) and Adam Huss 179 (92-87).

The University of Indianapolis won the meet an 8-over-par score of 584, beating Northern Kentucky in a playoff.

Trent Davison of Ferris State was medalist with 141.

The 'Cats travel to Indianapolis this weekend.
