MARQUETTE - During a morning breakfast meeting, members of the Superiorland Kiwanis Club saluted Kinsey Vear as the Marquette Senior High School female Athlete of the Month for February.
No male athletes were nominated for the monthly award, according to MSHS athletic coordinator Jamie Tuma.
A senior, Vear has completed her final season on the varsity girls swim and dive team. In her three years with the team, she earned All-Upper Peninsula honors each year.

This past season, Vear was named the U.P. Female Swimmer of the Year.
She holds many personal and pool records. Vear also won two individual races and was a member of two winning MSHS relays at the U.P. finals this year.
Holding a 4.29 GPA, Vear is a member of Redmen Chorale, Key Club and National Honor Society,
She was chosen for a scholarship to attend American Legion Girls State at Michigan State University last summer.
In the "off" season, she plays the piano, reads, participates in a variety of athletic activities and travels.
Future plans for Vear include taking a year to attend an intensive language school in Spain to study the Spanish language, then returning to the U.S. to attend the University of Michigan in the pre-med program.
Vear is coached by Nathan McFarren. Vear's parents are Jennifer Ray and Tom Vear.
