MARQUETTE - The McDonald's Pee Wee hockey team tied with Hockey Central 4-4 on Wednesday to end the season both the regular and post season crowns.
In order to take the championship home, McDonald's needed at least a tie, while Hockey Central needed a win.
McDonald's scored with in the match up, with a goal from Colin Gaffney off of an Elliot Samppala assist. Hockey Central's Rory O'Connor answered with an unassisted goal of his own to make the game 1-1, before Gaffney scored again with another assist from Samppala to make it 2-1 going into the second.
In the second, Hockey Central scored two quick goals to take the lead, the first coming from Jordan Kivi and the second from Nick Leafers. McDonalds' Samppala tied the game off of a Gaffney assist to tie the game 3-3 to end the second.
In the third, Hockey Central came out early with an unassisted goal from Kivi, but Gaffney scored a hat-trick goal quickly to make the final 4-4.
Luke McCarthy had 15 saves in the net for McDonald's, while Braden Golisek had 22 for Hockey Central.
