Marquette native coaches Junior A hockey team to Northern Pacific Hockey League title

MARQUETTE - Mike Stanaway of Marquette coached the Southern Oregon Spartans Junior A hockey team to the Northern Pacific Hockey League playoff championships.

The Spartans swept the Seattle Totems 3-0 in a best-of-five series.

The Spartans reached the league finals by defeating the Yellowstone Quake, three games to one, in the second round of the playoffs.

Southern Oregon received a first round bye due to its 34-8 regular season record

The Spartans will now advance to the USA Hockey National Championship in Rochester, Minn., March 30-April 3.

Stanaway is assisted by Aaron Corbiere, a Sault Ste. Marie native.
