Papp, Wahlstrom named Superiorland Kiwanis Marquette Senior High Athletes of the Month

MARQUETTE - Mark Pap of the Marquette Senior High School boys basketball team and Anna Wahlstrom of the MSHS competitive cheer squad were named the Superiorland Kiwanis Athletes of the Month for January.

Wahlstrom - a senior - was nominated by competitive cheer head coach Cari Detmers and is also a four-year member of the dance team at MSHS.

Wahlstrom has been named Most Outstanding Dancer the past two years, in addition to competitive cheering, and also received IDC silver three years in a row.

She maintains a 3.65 GPA and has received academic achievement awards three times, in addition to Kaufman awards in both music and academics. She is a member of the MSHS chapter of National Honor Society.

Outside of school activities, Wahlstrom volunteers for various organizations, including Relay for Life. She also helps teach cheerleading to middle school students, puts on events with the dance team and sings the National Anthem for Northern Michigan University athletic events.

Wahlstrom looks forward to pursuing a career in entertainment upon graduation. She's considering a business entertainment and graphic design degree at Full Sail University in Florida.

Her parents are Elizabeth and Tom Wahlstrom.

Pap, a junior, was named January's male athlete of the month by MSHS head basketball coach Brad Nelson.

Pap has spent two seasons on the MSHS varsity basketball team, and as of late this season, he was averaging 15.3 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Pap spends time volunteering for the Knights of Columbus and as an assistant basketball coach for younger players.

He's also a member of National Honor Society and maintains a 3.9 GPA.

Pap was also a member of the MSHS cross country team in the fall.

He's undecided in his plans after graduation, but does intend to attend college.

Pap's parents are John and Sue Pap.
