MARQUETTE - Northern Michigan University senior guard Chelsea Lyons was named the GLIAC women's basketball North Division Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 34 points in a win over Northwood on Thursday.
She then led the team to a victory over Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, allowing the Wildcats to clinch a spot in the league playoffs.
Lyons, who had 18 against SVSU, averaged 26 points, eight rebounds and four assists while shooting 61.2 percent from the field in the two home games. Lyons is averaging 16.5 ppg this season and ranks third in the GLIAC in scoring.
CCHA salutes Macaulay
for five assists
Not only did Scott Macaulay of the Northern Michigan University hockey team help the Wildcats sweep Lake Superior State over the weekend, he has been honored by the CCHA for his efforts as Defenseman of the Week.
He tallied five assists on the weekend and helped with NMU's penalty kill, which was 10-for-10 in the two games.
On Friday, Macaulay assisted on redshirt freshman Reed Seckel's first-period goal. Macaulay also had two blocks in NMU's 6-2 win.
Macaulay then posted a career-high four assists in Saturday's 5-3 victory.
Macaulay has 14 assists and three goals this season. In 101 career games, he has four goals and 34 assists.
Northern is the No. 6 seed in the CCHA Tournament, hosting No. 11-seed Bowling Green State in a best-of-three series this weekend.
The puck will drop at 7:35 p.m. Friday, Saturday and, if necessary, Sunday at the Berry Events Center.
