ISHPEMING - The Ishpeming City Police Department said subjects previously thought to possibly be representing a suspected energy tax credit scam are, in fact, representing a legitimate company.
Detective Sgt. and interim Police Chief Dan Willey said representatives from third-party natural gas supplier Just Energy are in the area going door-to-door speaking with residents about their gas bills.
"They have an office in Southfield, Michigan," Willey said. "I did confirm it with Semco as well."
Originally released as an alert to a possible scam in the area, Willey said further research showed the company is a legitimate business and should not cause concern to residents.
According to the company's website, Just Energy is an independent energy supplier with over 1.6 million electricity and natural gas customer accounts across the U.S. and Canada. They are the largest competitive green energy retailer in North America.
Just Energy's business involves the sale of natural gas and electricity to residential and commercial customers under long-term fixed-price or price-protected contracts (price protected for electricity).
Just Energy is part of a group of companies that offer natural gas in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, Quebec, British Columbia, New York, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and California, and electricity in Ontario, Alberta, New York, Massachusetts and Texas. Just Energy is a subsidiary of Just Energy Group, Inc.
