Marquette JV loses in overtime

MARQUETTE - The Marquette Senior High School JV hockey team fell to Houghton 5-4 in overtime on Friday night at Lakeview Arena.

In a game played just before the varsity's OT loss to Midland, the JVers were two players short with one called up to the varsity and a goalie on the injured list.

It forced MSHS coach Kevin Thomsen to ask for volunteers to play in the net.

"Cam Place stepped up tonight and did a decent enough job for us, especially considering he hasn't played goalie since Mites," Thomsen said. "He faced 30 shots and turned away 25; I guess you can't ask for much more than that."

Redmen goals were scored by Bryan Price, Cole Reibolt, MacKinley Larson and Hunter Larson, while assists went to Price, MacKinley Larson, Cam Fries, Dominic Stanchina and Scott Frazier.

While the Redmen were able to match the shots on goal, they were unable to capitalize on several power play opportunities.

The Redmen travel to Houghton next weekend looking to even the series.
