Suspected meth lab blast injures Marquette man

GWINN - A Marquette man suffered severe burns as a result of a suspected methamphetamine lab explosion that occurred Thursday night.

Forsyth Township Police Department officers responded to a residence on Elm Street in Gwinn at 11 p.m. Police reported finding several components of a meth lab in the residence.

The 43-year-old man was sent to Marquette General Hospital before being transferred to the University of Michigan Hospital burn center in Ann Arbor for his injuries.

According to police, the man is listed in critical condition after sustaining burns on more than 60 percent of his body.

Police said the explosion caused moderate damage to one room of the residence.

The Forsyth Township Police Department was assisted by the Marquette Police Department, the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team and the Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Township Post.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
