Cliffs donates defibrillators

November 28, 2011
The Mining Journal

Kurt Ball, left, Cliffs Michigan operations EMS committee chair, presents Ely Township First Responder Carl Hosang with an automatic external defibrillator donated by Cliffs Natural Resources Michigan operations. Cliffs Natural Resources Michigan operations recently donated four AEDs to the Ely Township First Responders. The Lifepak 5000s are manufactured by Medtronic and are valued at approximately $2,000 each. Early defibrillation along with CPR increases the survival rate in patients in cardiac arrest. The Ely Township First Responders have 12 members in their team. Prior to the donation, only eight had AEDs available to them. All members of the team are now able to carry an AED in their jumpbags when responding to an emergency situation.
