MARQUETTE - Singer-songwriter Adam Whittingon of Ishpeming said he feels he owes a debt to the local youth theater scene.

In order to pay back that debt, he's headlining a concert event Dec. 9 at Kaufman Auditorium that's a fundraiser for Lake Superior Youth Theater.

"Marquette Goes Hollywood" is the concert that will feature Whittington, a number of other local talents and special guest Brooklyn Haley, who's flying in from Los Angeles to take part.

“Marquette Goes Hollywood,” a concert at Kaufman Auditorim Dec. 9, features Los Angeles singer Brooklyn Haley, left, and local singer-songwriter Adam Whittington, along with a number of other local talents and special guests.

"I'm excited to be part of it," Whittington said of the concert. "Marquette Arts and Culture Center's Youth Theater, headed by Nikke Nason at that time, was one of the key elements in my gaining confidence in performing on stage as an actor and singer when I was younger.

"It's awesome to be able to give back to this program by putting on a concert in Marquette."

Whittington will be performing some of his originals as well as a few cover tunes.

"The songs you'll be hearing are also being played on radio stations around the world," he said. "I am planning on performing one of my newest songs that hasn't been released yet. It worked again with Drew Ryan Scott and with German producer Sammy Nija."

Local choreographer Jill Grundstrom has been working with Whittington on dance moves for the show. She will be among local dancers on stage for the concert along with Jennette Katona, Whitney Wirkula, Mallory Asano, Meagan Castro-Lopez, Ellyse Burbey, Jill Vermeulen, Kalin Knox and Katie Boyle.

Special guest will be singer Brooklyn Haley, who's flying in from the West Coast for the concert.

"I local array of music and dance will be included in the concert-fundraiser," Whittington said. "Dawn Dott Studios, Lake Superior Youth Theater, the Marquette Senior High School Dance Team and David Bashaw will be among the dance performances. Great music by Jimme Lyn and Anna Reynolds and Alyssa Erspamer will be featured. Marquette has so many talented artists and it is so exciting to have so many be a part of this fundraiser.

Those who've seen him perform in the past should expect even more.

"I hope to bring this concert up a notch from the Kaufman Auditorium concert of March 2010," he said. "I think visual is very important as a performer, so my team and I are working hard on the stage design and lights so you can walk away feeling you've been to an amazing concert.

"We are also having a red carpet event at 6:30 p.m. where friends and fans will be able to experience that 'sense of Hollywood' with the performers, local star athletes and other community leaders walking the red carpet," he said.

A post-concert after party is being planned as well and will include a meet-and-greet session and merchandise sale.

Haley will be coming to Marquette especially for the concert and other events. She's worked with Grammy Award-winning producer Alex Cantrall and her song, "Record n Rock" is featured in a new video game called "Dance Wars."

"(Brooklyn) has been singing all over Southern California and has performed at venues such as the famous Whiskey A Go Go, The Nokia ... The Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas and other showcases," Whittington said. "Brooklyn also had the honor to open up for Alyson Stoner Earth Wind and Fire, and Gretchen Bonaduce. She has been filming her own reality TV show 'In the Heart of Brooklyn' that is being shopped to several networks."

Whittington and Haley toured together earlier this year and will be working on a tour of Southern California in early 2012.
