MARQUETTE - A World Cup champion and Olympian has been named assistant coach for the Greco-Roman wrestling program at the U.S. Olympic Education Center at Northern Michigan University.

Aghasi Manukyan participated for Soviet Union and Armenia national teams, including for Armenia at the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta.

He has also coached the World Gold Wrestling Club and the national junior team of Armenia.

"I am trying to teach the wrestlers to practice like they are in a competition," Manukyan said about joining the USA Wrestling program at the USOEC.

"He is getting to know the wrestlers at the moment," USOEC Greco-Roman head coach Rob Hermann said. "He wants to leave his mark on this program and it is a good change for the wrestlers to hear another voice in the room."
