MARQUETTE - The investigation into a fatal shooting early this morning in Marquette has led to an investigation of an operating methamphetamine lab.
The Marquette City Police Department was called to 1005 W. Ridge St. in Marquette at 1:58 a.m. today, responding to emergency calls reporting a shooting.
Arriving at the scene, police found John Adam Bradbury, 49, of Marquette dead from an apparent shotgun wound in an apartment in the building. Also found at the scene was Rayan Zimmerman, 23, of Marquette, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. She was taken to Marquette General Hospital and underwent surgery this morning. No condition report was available from the hospital.
While investigating the shooting, police said they obtained a search warrant for the apartment, which is rented by Zimmerman, and discovered an operating meth lab. Officials from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team were contacted and have taken over the cleanup and investigation of the lab.
Police said a 22-year-old Marquette man was identified as a suspect and is lodged in the Marquette County Jail on an open murder charge and a parole violation.
The suspect, who is not being identified until his arraignment, was found hiding in a car across the street from the apartment in a parking lot. He was taken into custody without incident.
Police ask members of the public with information on the case to call 228-0400.
