July 20, 2011
The Mining Journal

ISHPEMING - The Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club will offer a free beginning rockhounding class from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. July 31 in the rock room at the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum in Ishpeming.

The class is open to ages 8 and older. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The class will introduce participants to the hobby of rock and mineral collecting. They will learn how and where to collect specimens in this area and to identify minerals by using hands on experience with actual specimens.

Each person will receive specimens they identify to jump start their collections. They will be able to view specimens and the new fluorescent mineral display at the museum. Information will be provided on the club's Aug. 6 rock show and its field trips.

Class size is limited, and pre-registration is required. To register, call 225-0408 before July 29.
