Chosas score wins at U.P. Mud Drag events

Champion hosting Saturday’s event

BARAGA - Tom and Brandy Chosa of Baraga scored victories in stock divisions during the first two race dates of the season held by the Upper Peninsula Mud Drag Association.

Tom Chosa scored his victory in Super Stock at the event held in Newald, Wis., on Saturday, while Brandy Chosa got hers in the Women's Street Stock class at an event held in Baraga on June 4.

Brandy Chosa also earned a runner-up finish in the same division at the Newald event as Audrey Solomon of Escanaba won.

The series will move to the Champion Horse Pulling Grounds in Champion on Saturday, with back-to-back Saturdays also coming up in Marquette County in August.

Locally sponsored by the Champion Fire Department, Saturday's registration runs from 8 to 11 a.m. with racing set to start at noon.

Several other area racers also picked up top-three finishers at the Baraga and Newald events.

Fred Minor of Manistique was second in Pro-Stock to Charlie Semo of Ironwood in Baraga, while also coming in second in the Consistency Class of Pro-Mod Truck in Newald to Ben Wandahsega of Hannahville.

In Baraga, Stacy Bouman of Marquette was second in the Women's Street Stock class to Brandy Chosa, while Mike Bouman of Marquette was second in Improved Stock to Bob Koivisto of Ironwood.

At Newald, Shelly Bouman was third in Women's Street Stock, while Jeff Bouman of Marquette was third in Improved Stock.

After Champion, the U.P. Mud Drag racers go to the Checkered Flag Productions Monster Truck Show in Escanaba on July 1-2, then to Hannahville's Three Fires Off Road Park on July 9.

Taking a break for a few weeks, the series resumes with a Skandia Lions Club-sponsored event in Skandia on Aug. 6, then goes to the Marquette County Fair in Sands Township on Aug. 13, the U.P. State Fair in Escanaba on Aug. 21 and finishes up in Houghton on Sept. 10.

This year's series is sponsored by Quality Care Transmissions, Menhennick Racing, Capelli Salon and TC Electric.
