Keep money home

May 8, 2011
Dan Adamini Marquette , The Mining Journal

To the Journal editor:

Gas prices are rising again. Unemployment is high. People are angry at each other, at Republicans, and even at the oil companies. Not enough are angry at government policies that created the problem - from both parties.

Like most problems, causes and the solutions are not complicated. You who complain gas is too expensive, gas money goes to our enemies, families can't make ends meet, and the government is broke, listen up.

Tell your federal representatives and senators to stop sending oil money overseas. We have enough oil resources to be self sufficient for 60-200 years depending on the scientists you believe. Even only 60 years is enough time to develop "greener" energy which will eventually be practical.

Hundreds of thousands of jobs could be created building roads, equipment and refineries, and harvesting our plentiful resources. The quickest of these resources could be to market as quickly as six months from the time the government removes oppressive restrictions on oil drilling.

Everyone knows that this can be done safely (including those who claim otherwise but have their own agenda). Many restrictions have nothing to do with safety, but rather with an extreme environmental agenda which at present is working very well.

Government revenues from oil companies far exceed profits the oil companies earn, so that should make the leftists happy. Tax dollars from more employed workers will raise revenue our government says it needs to take care of us.

Money from a growing economy is far greater than revenue taken from the top of an ever-shrinking economy. Our enemies will lose our market, which lowers the price of oil for the rest of the world, lowering the revenue our enemies receive.

Plentiful oil closer to shore would make it unnecessary to drill in deep water, preventing spills like that of 2010. Gas prices will be so low cars may get larger again, or manufacturers may be able to use steel in cars again because mileage will not be as important. Then we'll be safer in the cars and the steel industry will thrive, also.

If we stop punishing those who have the ability and desire to help, everyone benefits, except those who believe "climate change" is man-made. By now even they know science is not on their side.

The handful of stubborn believers will have renewed purpose protesting and collecting donations from those who don't know any better. Everyone wins.
