ISHPEMING - Betty (Beatrice) Elaine Skauge, 85, of 213 Angeline St., Ishpeming, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Marquette General Hospital following a short illness.

She was born on November 6, 1925 in Crystal Falls, Michigan and was the daughter of John Francis and Jane (O'Keeffe) Dawe. She was a graduate of Ishpeming High School, the class of 1943. On November 22, 1947, she married Stuart "Bucky" Skauge at St. John the Evangelist Church in Ishpeming.

Prior to her marriage she worked for the War Department in Washington D.C. during World War II. She was employed at Bell Memorial Hospital for many years in the medical records department then, as the Quality Assurance Manager and retired in 1990 as the Administrative Assistant to the CEO.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her whole life revolved around her family and she will be greatly missed. She was an avid reader, scrabble player and a wonderful cook. She never missed an opportunity to give to others.

She is survived by seven children. Susan (John) Jarvis, of Laurium, Michigan, Stuart Skauge, Nancy (Dennis) Grove, Pamela (William) Malmsten, Stephen (Karen) Skauge, JoAnne (Graig) Hornkohl of Easley, South Carolina and Jeffrey (Kristin Murray) Skauge. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren. Jennifer (Jasen) Stephan, Tracy (Derek) Larson, Sandy (Evan) Foster, Brian Skauge, Steven Malmsten, Rebecca Malmsten, Molli Skauge, Brittany Parmer, Amanda Hornkohl, Morgan Skauge and Andrew Skauge. She is also survived by 2 nieces and 3 nephews; Joan Dietzel, Sharon Peterson, Dr. James Quayle, Robert Quayle and Eugene Quayle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart in 1998 and sister Mabel Quayle in 1963 and her parents, John in 1951 and Jane in 1993.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Ishpeming with Fr Greg Heikkala officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brian Skauge, Steven Malmsten, Andrew Skauge, Derek Larson, Evan Foster and Jasen Stephan.
