Center will assist walking, balance

March 22, 2011
The Mining Journal

MARQUETTE - Marquette General Hospital has announced the implementation of the Marquette General Walking and Balance Center, designed to diagnose and treat patients with walking and balance issues, particularly in older adults.

The center is staffed by experts in the fields of physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurosurgery, neurology, physical therapy and orthotics. Anyone experiencing dizziness, imbalance or a fear of falling can benefit from the Marquette General Walking and Balance Center.

No referral is necessary. The center is located in the hospital, just off the skywalk. For more information or an appointment, call 225-4576 and ask for the Walking and Balance Center. In one to two days, individuals will be contacted by a nurse who will ask important questions designed to determine the history of the problem and any diagnostic tests that have been done.

This pre-appointment preparation will help the center make visits with the doctor more productive. An appointment with walking and balance experts wil develop a plan to make the best treatment recommendations and referrals. Specialists are ready to provide priority access to appointments, often within one to two days.
