CURTIS - Submissions are being accepted for the 2011 Student Fiction Writing Contest, sponsored by the Second Saturday Writers' Group, the Erickson Center for the Arts and the Newberry Senior Citizens. The contest is open to students in grades nine through 12. Judging will be based on the originality of ideas, creative use of language, grammar, story structure, spelling and punctuation and overall impression.
A 500 to 1,500 word original fiction short story must be submitted no later than Feb. 25. Title and word count must appear on the first page of the story.
Names of characters must be fictitious. To enter, attach one separate cover sheet with your name, address, phone number, grade and school (or indicate home school). Do not put your name on any other page of the story. Include two stapled copies of the typed story and mail to Erickson Center for the Arts, P.O. Box 255, Curtis, MI 49820.
One grand prize winner will be awarded free registration (excluding lodging) to the upcoming North of 45 Retreat for Writers. Prizes will also be awarded for first through third place, as well as two honorable mentions.
