K.I. SAWYER - Brooklynn Lee Neal, 30, of 207 Titan, K.I. Sawyer, entered eternal life Monday evening, December 13, 2010.
Born April 6, 1980 in Marquette, a daughter of Don and Lora (Longtine) Houghton, Brooke was raised in Negaunee and was a 1998 graduate of the Negaunee High School. She worked for a time at the Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette and then at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee. These work opportunities were to set a pattern for her life. Her plans were to eventually go into nursing, but her career plans changed. A very caring person, Brooke desired to devote her life in service to others. She worked for Pathways and then Teaching Family Homes, while enrolling in the social work program at Northern Michigan University, completing three and a half years. While in the social work program, she did her internship with troubled youth and youth on probation. She took a semester off and for six months served as secretary for her father's business, Sawyer Iron and Metal. As secretary, her duties were whatever needed to be done and she was a familiar sight in her flip-flops, cleaning metal. Brooke's family was the center of her life and everything revolved around them and her friends. She was a devoted mother, enjoyed Facebook, and was an enthusiastic fan at her daughter's hockey games. Brooke was a member of the Abundant Life Outreach Center in Sands and was very good at working with the youth. She had a special love for those who were physically challenged and was always willing to help anyone in need.
Survivors include her children, Loralei Mary Castor, Rabecka Ada Castor, Aijah Beth Neal, and Curtis Michael Neal; her parents, Don and Lora Houghton of Harvey; her sisters, Kimberly Mae (Kurt Peters) Houghton of Auburn and Beth Marie (Jared Riley) Houghton of Marquette; brothers, Chad A.
