Patrick Thomson, running for the Negaunee school board this Nov. 2.

October 27, 2010
The Mining Journal

I would like to introduce myself to the voters in the Negaunee school district. My name is Patrick Thomson, and I am the father of a first grader and a preschooler. My children's education is very important to me, and that's why I'm running for the Negaunee school board this Nov. 2. I have no agenda to bring to the board, I just want the best education possible for our children, mine and yours.

As a parent, I feel I need to be more responsible for my children's education and not place that responsibility solely on their teachers.

As a taxpayer, I believe a school board needs to be fiscally responsible to its taxpayers as it relates to our children's education. I am a certified public accountant and I deal with budgets, cash flow projections and financing on daily basis. I believe these skills can help serve Negaunee's school board in these tough economic times. And they are tough, no question about it! I don't think this board position will be easy and there will be hard decisions to make.

I have a great deal of respect for the current school board members and for all the hard work and hours they've put in to make Negaunee's schools something to be proud of. Negaunee takes great pride in its school district and I would be proud to serve this community as a school board member.
