How often do you hear or see debates among political candidates that focus on issues and policy? Where people can make their own judgments on merit, and who is telling the truth? What we most often hear and see are attack ads, paid for by "undisclosed " corporate and foreign benefactors. Who benefits? The print and on-air media are at the end of the money funnel that directs millions of dollars their way. Do we trust them to be impartial?
If Congress had the courage to pass legislation that limits political media coverage to debates and public meetings, we could salvage our democratic election process. Will they do it? Don't count on it.
