MARQUETTE - Grant Henriksen is on the road to recovery.

The 13-year-old Marquette resident underwent surgery Tuesday to amputate his left leg just above the knee. Grant, the son of Tracy and Bill Henriksen, was diagnosed earlier this year with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer.

Tracy Henriksen reports Grant "is recovering really, really well. He had his chest tube removed (Thursday) along with a drainage tube from his leg. He got out of bed, into the recliner and has worked with physical therapy."

Grant had his surgery at the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. His mother said the family hopes to be headed back home by Sunday, but that will depend on how things go over the next few days.
