Edward Stephen ‘Steve’ Demogola

MELSTRAND - Edward Stephen "Steve" Demogola, age 67, of Munising and formerly of Melstrand, died Tuesday evening, March 2, 2010, at the Munising Memorial Hospital.

He was born on May 30, 1942, in Munising to the late Steve and Ida (Dolback) Demogola. Steve attended Wm. G. Mather High school and then joined the U.S. Navy from July 19, 1960, until Dec. 16, 1963. He returned to school and earned his GED from Munising High School graduating with his daughter Sharon and Karen in 1976. Steve had married Diane Radtke Lamarand on April 6, 1973. They were married over 29 years when she preceded him in death on July 10, 2002. Steve had worked many jobs for the City of Munising. He retired from the wastewater treatment plant with over 20 years of service. He enjoyed spending time at the Bear Trap and loved to sing karaoke. Steve enjoyed four wheeling, tinkering in his garage, spending time with people and bartering. He was always willing to trade something and then retrade his prize the next week.

He is survived by his children, Mike (Janet) Demogola of Munising, Sharon Cearley of Munising, Karen (Jerry) Wright of Oscoda, Murray (Sue) Lamarand of Munising, and Terri Peel of Kentucky; 11 grandchildren, Gabby, Brittney, Joel, Ramsey, Shandelia, Evelyn, Anthony, Sonya, Chelsea, Dakota, and Cain; great-grandchild, Summer, and one on the way; brother Andy (Linda) Demogola of Hesperia; sister Donna (Bill) McKenzie of Munising; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Steve was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Diane; brothers Joley, Walter and Thomas; and sisters Loretta, Mary, Rosella and Lucille.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010, at the Bowerman Funeral Home at 5 p.m. Visiting time with family and friends will be from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. A time of fellowship and food will be held at the Munising Baptist Church following the mermorial service. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising where the Alger County Veterans Council and American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
