MARQUETTE - Patricia J. Sandstrom, 78, of 214 Newberry St., Marquette, entered eternal life Thursday evening, Nov. 12, 2009, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis., following a brief illness.
Born Jan. 23, 1931, in Gladstone, Patricia was raised in Gladstone and later graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a teaching certificate.
In 1952, Pat married Richard Sandstrom and together the couple established a home and raised their family in Marquette. Pat treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the time spent in family activities. She enjoyed travel and for many years wintered in Golf Shores, Ala. Other interests included a love of playing golf, going to the casino, and caring for and working in her garden. Pat was a member of St. Peter Cathedral, and was active in the work of the D.A.V. and volunteered at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.
Survivors include her daughters, Theresa (Bradford) Schaedig of Tega Cay, S.C., and Anna (Sue Smallridge) Roberts of Ishpeming; two sons, Richard Keith Sandstrom and Ronald (Linda) Sandstrom, both of Marquette; eight grandchildren, Teshannon (Harry) Merlo, Taylor (Brian) Houser, Trenna and Thea Schaedig, David (Jennifer) Emard, Candace (Jonathan) Billings, James (Danielle) Sandstrom and Maja Sandstrom; nine great-grandchildren, Isaac, Malachi, Gabriel, Ethan, Morgan, Trent, Kendra, Jocelyn and Jameson. Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 2005; and a son, Stephen Sandstrom.
Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 3 to 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Steber officiating. A reception will follow in St. Peter Cathedral Hall. Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Activity Fund at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans, 425 Fisher St., Marquette, MI 49855.
