ISHPEMING - The Ishpeming City Police Department has secured warrants for two suspects in connection with an unarmed robbery that occurred over the weekend.
The Marquette County Prosecutor's Office authorized warrants for two Ishpeming residents, a 25-year-old male and a 24-year-old female, according to Ishpeming Police Chief Jim Bjorne. Both warrants carry a charge of one count of unarmed robbery, which is a 15-year felony.
"There's strong evidence to show (they) are involved in this," Bjorne said.
The robbery occurred Saturday night as an 81-year-old woman was walking from her car to the Pioneer Bluffs Apartments. More than $1,000 was stolen, won previously that evening in bingo.
Police said they believe both suspects have left the area and were last reported in South Carolina.
Since warrants have been issued, the suspects can be searched for through the Law Enforcement Information Network if they are picked up for speeding or any other reason, Bjorne said.
If they are located in another state and waive extradition, they could be back in the Upper Peninsula within a few of weeks. If they decide to go through the process of extradition, it could take longer, Bjorne said.
