MARQUETTE - In a recent meeting, North Star Academy discussed the arrival of its temporary classrooms for its new elementary school.

"We had three delivered last week and one is coming today," CEO Karen Anderson said this morning, adding that the four parts will be constructed into two classrooms complete with windows, restrooms and offices.

The charter school is renting two modular classrooms from Satellite Shelters of Minneapolis for its 83 elementary school students until an elementary school addition is finished at the school's facility on Wright Street in Marquette Township.

"The foundation is poured for both," Anderson said, adding that the classrooms will be located on the south end of the school's current building.

The temporary buildings can accommodate 65 students each, Anderson said, and students may have to stay in the buildings for up to 12 months.

"By the end of the week they'll be installed," Anderson said. "Next week it'll be moving in."

After a final inspection, parents and students are invited to tour the new classrooms from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 3

In other news, North Star also was notified that it prevailed in its appeal of the denial of U.S. Department of Agriculture funding for its elementary school addition.

"Our application is back in play," Anderson said, adding that if granted, North Star could get a low interest loan or a government guaranteed loan for the $2.66 million project.
