Norine Jarvi

GWINN - Norine Jarvi, age 93, formerly of 210 W. Iron St., Gwinn, died at 12:15 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at Norlite Nursing Center where she had resided since April of 2007.

Norine was born April 21, 1916, in Negaunee to Angelo and Cecelia (Roman) Mongiat and was a lifelong area resident, spending her last 30 years in Gwinn. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Gwinn, and the Daughters of Isabella. Mrs. Jarvi enjoyed playing bingo, knitting, playing cards and baking. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by two sons, William (Sally) Jarvi of Ann Arbor, Mich., and John (Joanne) Jarvi of Rockford, Mich.; five grandchildren, Diane Jarvi, Robert Jarvi, James (Heather) Jarvi, Julie (Robert) McGee, and Justin Jarvi; six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John A. 'Art' Jarvi, on July 1, 2007; two grandsons, Michael and Jeffrey Jarvi; one brother, John Mongiat; and three sisters, Lucille Boz, Mary St. Andre and Lucy Honeywell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn on Friday, Aug. 14 at noon with Father Ronald Timock officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends in the church hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Norlite Nursing Center Activity Fund.
