Bonanza takes second
MARQUETTE - The Marquette Bonanza pre-season prep hockey team placed second this past weekend in the Robert Goehlke Memorial tournament in downstate Alpena.
The Marquette skaters lost to Birmingham Brother Rice in the title game, 3-0. Goalie Michael McAuliffe faced 21 shots.
Bonanza opened the tourney by defeating Birmingham Unified, 5-0. Casey O'Neill and Jake Robinson scored two goals apiece, while Eric Rizzio added a single marker.
Assists went to Dallas McLaughlin, Josh Benzie, Kyle Storm, Rizzio (2) and Robinson (2). McAuliffe faced 21 shots.
Bonanza tied Brother Rice in its second game, 3-3. Robinson, Beau Adams and Rizzio found the back of the net for Marquette, with assists going to O'Neill, Brian Erspamer and Rizzio.
McAuliffe faced 25 shots in goal.
Bonanza then beat defeated Pinckney, 3-2, with Adams, Tony Kroncich and Robinson scoring goals.
Assists went to Benzie, Rizzio and Robinson, while Michael McAuliffe faced 21 shots.
In their fourth contest, Marquette defeated Waterford Mott, 7-4. Goals were scored by McLaughlin, Storm, Adams (2), O'Neill, Cody Wickstom and Rizzio.
Collecting assists were Jake Robinson, Kroncich, Ian O'Neill, Rizzio and McLaughlin.
McAuliffe faced 19 shots.
