ISHPEMING - Mary Ellen Moyle, 80, formerly of 212 Hazel St., Ishpeming, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee while under the loving care of family, the Upper Peninsula Home Health & Hospice, and the compassionate care of the Eastwood Nursing Center staff.
Mary Ellen was born May 9, 1929, in Negaunee, the daughter of the late William and Adeline (Anderson) Moyle. Mary Ellen grew up in Palmer and attended Palmer School until high school. She graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1945. Mary Ellen moved to the Milwaukee area in 1949 and worked for Briggs & Stratton as an assembly line worker for 37 years, retiring in 1986. While in Milwaukee, she was very active with bowling, ladies softball leagues and the local union, which she was a member of. She moved back to this area in 1987. She became active in supporting the Catholic Church and was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming.
Mary Ellen was known for her sense of humor and her love of family. She had a great appreciation and showed great pride for her county. Her hobbies included woodworking, gardening (especially her roses), photography and embroidery work. She was a life member of the Richmond Township Community Club, and an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, including Faye (Fred) Holmi of Gwinn, Donna (Jim) Strongman of Clarksburg Location, David (Dianna) Hodge of Columbus, Ohio, MaryBeth (Scott) Collick of Suomi Location and Debbie (Larry) Wendt of Negaunee; a special friend, Sister Judie Wagener SSND of Eau Claire, Wis.; and sister-in-law, Elaine Moyle of Ishpeming. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers and sisters, Florence Pryor, Harold Moyle, Alden Moyle, Henrietta "Dottie" Froney, Elizabeth Garceau, James Moyle, Robert Moyle and Lillian Hodge.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming with the Rev. Fr. James Challancin to officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will follow the Mass at the Country Kitchen in Ishpeming. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery at a later date.
Pallbearers will be Dick Pryor, Karen Martin, Terry Kutchie, Tom Moyle, David Hodge, Bill Froney, Fuzz Garceau and Margaret Borlace.
