Bjork & Zhulkie defeats Meyer; Police Cadets clinch Major title

Minor League

Bjork & Zhulkie beat Meyer Family Vision 14-7. Jacob Laakso was the winning pitcher. Chris Austin went 2-for-3 for Bjork & Zhulkie and Khora Swanson went 2-for-3 with a triple.

Meyer Family Vision beat Globe Printing 24-17. Bryce Travor was the winning pitcher. Tanner Dellangelo went 2-for-3 for Meyers.

For Globe. Darrius Yohe had a hit along with Jake Peppin.

Meyer Family Vision beat CMMC 4-2. Bryce Travor was the winning pitcher. Lucas Solka had two hits for Meyers. Eric Hidleburger had a hit and Brandon Perry and Ethan Burke scored for CMMC.

Meyer Family Vision beat CMMC 13-10. Austin Pierpont was the winning pitcher. Seth Smith had two hits to lead the way. Mikey Revord had two hits and Dre Toumanen had an in the park home run for CMMC.

Major League

Iron Range Agency beat Bell Medical 13-1. Tom Bleau was the winning pitcher. He and reliever Dom Suardini scattered six hits and struck out 10. Suardini also had three hits and scored four times with Zach Connors, Josh Garceau, Nate Nelson and Mark Holmgren all chipping in two hits for the winners. Tyler Knight pitched steady for Bell Medical recording nine strikeouts with Cat Nevala going 2-for-2 at the plate.

The Ishpeming Lions defeated Country Village 137. Trevor Burke picked up the win on the mound with nine strikeouts with Cody Johnson coming on in relief in the fifth. The Lions picked up 14 hits led by Michael Farley with a 3-for-4 performance. Andy Duquette, Cody Johnson and Dylan Sundberg each picked up two hits. Ryan Hunt added a double in the fourth inning in which the Lions scored seven runs. Country Village picked up six hits, led by Joe Nault who went 2-for-3 with a home run, and Dillan Leaf who went 2-for-4 and scored twice.

Signs Plus beat Bell Medical 19-7. Austin Corp was the winning pitcher and had four RBIs and a solo home run in the game.

The Ishpeming Lions defeated Signs Plus 104. Kirk Guckenberg and Dylan Sundberg teamed up to throw a two-hitter, striking out 11 in a time shorted five-inning game. Ozzy Corp recorded 10 strikeouts while on the mound for Signs Plus. The Lions picked up 11 hits, scoring four in the top of the third. Key hits in that inning were by Trevor Burke with a triple and singles by Dylan Sundberg, Cody Johnson and Dakota Riopelle. Luke Gray had an in the park home run in the bottom of the third and Luke Kulju tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. The Lions broke the game open in the top of the fifth by scoring six runs on three hits.

Cody Johnson had a double and Michael Farley and Ryan Hunt added singles.

Little League

Major Division

Police Cadets beat Electricians, 6-5. McKinley Larson was the winner, striking out 10 while giving up five hits. Jarod Havican took the loss, striking out four while giving up five hits.

Helping his own cause, Larson smacked a two-run homer and stole home for the winning run. Luke Johnson contributed a double and triple

For the Electricians, Connor Brazeau slapped a triple and Lucas Klinger hit a solo homer.

Police Cadets topped Kiwanis, 11-6, with Noah Gannon picking up the victory. Colton Wiggins took the loss.

Gannon pounded out a double and Brian Helmer bunted in an RBI for the Cadets.

For Kiwanis, Jake Verbotski hit a double and Josh Phillips contributed a single with RBI.

Police Cadets edged Hetrick, 5-4, behind a six-strikeout performance by Ryan Peterson. He gave up just two hits.

Hetrick's Luke Schweminn struck out five and gave up five hits.

For the Cadets, Avery Nachtman (triple) and Noah Gannon (double) led the way while Hetrick's Garret VanAble hit a single.

Northern Michigan Bank nipped CCI, 5-4. Winning pitcher Riley Lynch struck out two in a no-hitter. He also contributed a single as did teammates Alex Warchol, Mitch Gilbert and Lance Rambo who drove in the game-winning run with a sharp single up the middle to break open a tight contest.

Police Cadets again topped Hetrick, this time 6-3.

Winning pitcher Mckinley Larson struck out eight of nine batters he faced during his three innings on the mound while losing pitcher Noah Peterson struck out seven and gave up six hits.

Larson also smacked a two-run homer while teammate Brian Helmer hit double

Jake Olson had a triple for Hetrick.

Northern Michigan Bank defeated Elks, 9-7. Riley Lynch struck out four in the win while Brett Beauchamp sat down five in the loss.

Lynch had a great day at the plate, driving in four runs with four hits including a double and a triple, while his teammate Scott Trip had two singles.

Electricians outlasted Police Cadets, 17-12. Jared Havian picked up the win and struck out five. Ryan Peterson shouldered the loss.

For the winners, Connor Brazeau had a solo homer while Havican pounded out five hits.

For the Police Cadets, Mckinley Larson had a solo home run while Zach Carter and Ryan Peterson each hit doubles.

Even with the loss, Police Cadets clinched the 2009 regular season title with a 11-3 record and earned the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

Marquette Minors

In Minor League action, Jilbert's defeated Quizno's, 14-2.

The Jilbert hitting attack was led by Hunter Wernholm and Alec Gadzinski with three hits each. Wernholm hit a home run and collected five RBIs on the day.

Also for Jilbert's, Parker Smith collected two hits, Seth Cherubini hit a triple, Nate Snyder had an RBI single and Ryan Turner had an RBI. Wernholm, Cherubini and Gadzinski combined to hold Quizno's to only one hit, a home run by Garrett Finkbeiner.

Negaunee

Major League

At Rivers Field on June 22, Negaunee Dean Foods and Negaunee VFW played to a 0-0 tie. Dean's pitchers Cole Francis and Anthony Moyle gave up three hits while VFW's pitcher Luke Hill allowed only two hits.

At Township Field on June 25, Negaunee Dean Foods outscored Negaunee Elks 14-6.

Dean's offense, which saw each player collect a hit, was led by Zak Harsila with three singles. Guy Daggett added a triple and Cole Francis two doubles.

For Elks, Grant Johnson hit two singles and scored two runs.

Cole Francis pitched a complete game and belted a three-run home run to help Negaunee Dean Foods defeat Negaunee Lions 8-2 on June 26 at Rivers Field.

For Dean's, Anthony Moyle connected for three singles, and Owen LaJoie and Darius Provost tripled.

For Lions, Chad Larson and Ryan Syrjala hit singles.

Negaunee VFW topped Negaunee Lions 7-5 in a hard-fought battle.

Brett Argall was the winning pitcher with help from closer Ben Luke. Argall helped his cause with a triple and a single. Luke Hill went 3-for-3 and scored three runs. Matt Jandron, Storm Juntti, and Ben Luke all added singles.

For the Lions, Chad Larson led the way at the plate with a triple, a single and three runs scored. Ethan St. Germain and Tyler Riuta both singled. Ryan Syrjala took the loss with a fine outing on the mound.

For their second win of the week, VFW defeated Bell Medical, 24-8. Storm Juntti was the winning pitcher and also hit a single and a home run. Donny Schultz, Ben Luke and Luke Hill all singled and doubled. Brett Argall, Kenton Rajala and Dillion Mihelac all doubled, while Clay Ronn chipped in a single.

No information is available for Bell Medical.

For the third win of the week, VFW again defeated Bell Medical, 23-2. Luke Hill took the mound win and went 4-for-4 at the plate with a single, two doubles and a triple. Ben Luke also was perfect hitting three singles and a triple.

Brett Argall hit a single, triple and banged out a home run, to put himself in a tie for the league lead in round trippers.

Storm Juntti had two hits with a single and an inside the park home run. Clay Ronn ripped two singles, Jacob Bossert, Matt Jandron, Tyler Miller and Kenton Rajala hit singles of their own.

No information is available for Bell Medical.

In their fourth and final game of the week, VFW again came out on top, defeating Dean's Foods 10-3.

Brett Argall was the winning pitcher and hit two doubles. Storm Juntti had a double and two singles. Luke Hill singled twice and Kenton Rajala also singled for the Vets.

For Dean's Foods, Owen LaJoie doubled, Anthony Moyle, Cole Francis and Trevor Uren all singled. LaJoie took the loss on the mound with a strong effort.
