MARQUETTE - The Marquette City Police are looking for an unarmed man that stole money Thursday from a woman walking outside.

At 1 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of Garfield Avenue and Waldo Street in reference to a subject that had demanded money from a female victim, according to a police press release. The man left the area heading south toward Fair Avenue.

The suspect is described as a white male, 5 feet 6 inches tall, skinny build, black and gray hair and a black and gray beard. He is described as missing an upper tooth.

The subject was wearing dirty blue jeans, darker flannel shirt and carrying a black backpack. He was reported to have strong body odor, police said.

Police were unsure if the suspect in this case is the same person who attempted to steal money from a Border Grill employee in March.

That man was described as 6 feet tall, heavy build, with dark, shoulder-length hair, unshaven with a mole or spot under his right eye, wearing a red and black flannel shirt or jacket.

That man was also described as dirty and having body odor.

"It's a possibility," Marquette police Det. Capt. Gordie Warchock said. "The descriptions don't quite add up. We won't be sure until we locate the suspect."

Warchock said anyone with information is asked to call the Marquette Police Department at 228-0440.
