By JOHN PEPIN Journal Staff Writer

MARQUETTE - Since first opening its doors in Marquette in August 2005, Downtown EyeCare's business has continued to grow, while trying to stay small.

Owners Jon and Jenny Webb strive to provide a relaxing and warm environment for their patients.

"Even though we've grown quite a bit, we're sticking to that," Jenny said. "That's what we are focusing on."

The professionals at the practice see one patient per hour, cultivating relationships with customers. There are four licensed and certified opticians and one optometrist comprising the staff at Downtown EyeCare.

Jenny said the business keeps abreast of the latest innovations in the field. The Webbs were recently scheduled to visit the International Vision Expo, the largest industry trade show, in Manhattan, N.Y.

"We try to be just a little different and a little more unique," Jenny said. "Dr. Webb uses amazing technology in his eye examines."

About two months ago, Downtown Eyecare installed a Smart Mirror, which assists patients in visualizing how their glasses frames will look, before they purchase them.

The Smart Mirror was produced in France.

"It has a whole host of features that we can utilize for the patient," Jenny said. "It's an amazing tool."

Also from France, Downtown EyeCare features a frame line of handcrafted, unique eyewear.

"We're exclusive in Marquette," Jenny said.

There is only one other outlet in the Upper Peninsula - at Sault Ste. Marie - to carry the Lafont frames.

Downtown EyeCare is located at 131 W. Washington St. The phone number there is 226-2020.
