Long time Ishpeming grocery store gets new look and feel

ISHPEMING - Located on Lakeshore Drive, a long-time Ishpeming grocery store got a new sign and a new owner recently.

Tony Lofaro, a former store manager at Econo Foods in Marquette, bought what was formerly Joseph's SuperValu in February, renaming it Lofaro's Food Market and bringing some changes to the store.

"We felt it was a good opportunity," Lofaro said. "I think Mr. Joseph did a great job for many years."

Following in the footsteps of Joseph is a bit of a challenge, he said.

"It's been exciting, a little intimidating," he said.

Lofaro said many of the former Joseph's employees have stayed on.

Some of Lofaro's changes include expanding the produce and meat departments, as well as some rearranging of the aisles to open up the interior of the store.

"Our goal is to give it a different feel, a fresh look to it," Lofaro said.

"Joseph's had very loyal customers and they understand we're trying to make it a fresher place to shop," he said.

More changes to the store's interior can be expected, Lofaro said.

"The plan for the future is to try to do some enhancements inside," he said. "To be the best perishable store we can be."
