Gallagher can’t save Rangers from loss

BOARDMAN, Ohio - James Gallagher of Marquette scored twice, but it couldn't stop the Marquette Rangers Tier II Junior A hockey team from dropping a 4-3 decision to Alpena Sunday.

Gallagher scored in the first period and late in the third in the North American Hockey League North Division showcase game, but the Rangers still fell to 10-12-4 on the season.

Marquette's Chad Pietila added a goal and two assists, the marker coming on a power play.

The Rangers of coach Kenny Miller went 2-for-8 with a man advantage.

Also collecting helpers for Marquette were Reed Rushing, Aaron Pietila and Michael Thompson (2).

Dan Sullivan came up with 19 saves in net for the Rangers, while Alpena counterpart Nick Graves made 21 stops.

Erik Peterson notched two goals - one shorthanded - to lead the winners offensively.

Jim McCusker added a goal and an assist.

Johnson's wins twice

The Johnson Pee Wee AA hockey Sentinels of Marquette played Escanaba twice and won both games this past weekend.

In the first contest, Johnson's won 4-2 with Chad Larson scoring three goals and Ethan St. Germain one.

Assists were credited to Hunter Larson, St. Germain, Charles Coccia (2), Chris Amundsen and Brock Smith.

Netminder Ethan Wiese turned away 10 of the 12 shots he faced for the winners.

In the nightcap, Johnson's won 5-2. Goals were scored by St. Germain, Konnor Lefebvre, Tyler Thomas, Chad Larson and Justin Cain.

Helpers were recorded by Smith (3), Amundsen (2), Lefebvre (2), Cain (2), and Chad Larson.

Wiese turned away 12 shots on goal.

Electricians win finale

The Marquette Electricians Local 1070 Midget AAA hockey team beat the Illinois Sabres 3-2 Sunday in consolation play in the Team Illinois Thanksgiving Tournament in Bensonville, Ill.

Austin Gauthier, Wolff Belanger and Brett Love notched markers for the Electricians of coach Mike Dagenais.

Joel Benson assisted on all three scores.

Andrew Mills came up with 20 saves in net for Marquette.

Saturday, the Electricians were ousted from quarterfinal play when they tied the Chicago flames, 4-4.

Belanger recorded two goals and an assist; Mitch Snider added a goal and a helper; and Jon Aho chipped in a goal and two assists.

Netminder Jonathan Hill made 26 saves for Marquette.

The Electricians, who went 2-1-1 in the tournament, travel to Sault Ste. Marie this coming weekend to play the Indians.
